Front Sight’s Monday Blog: You Won’t Hurt Your Gun Dry Practicing….
Other than older, fixed firing pin weapons and any .22 rim-fire weapon, it is perfectly fine to dry practice with modern, center-fire weapons with free-floating firing pins.

Catholics, The 2nd Amendment, & Subsidiarity « The American Catholic.
To my knowledge, there has been no in-depth discussion of the source and exercise of the right to bear arms in the context of CST. However there are some precedents to work from. Although the Catholic Church long lived in tacit agreement with feudal systems of government in which property ownership was to a great extent seen a springing from the will of an aristocratic class, in the last 150 years (explicitly in Rerum Novarum and subsequent CST encyclicals) the Church has developed and understanding of economics and property rights in which individual ownership of the means to provide for oneself is a natural human right. Given that defending oneself is also a natural human right, it would not seem unreasonable to assume that owning the tools necessary to exercise the right to self defense is also a natural human right, rather than something held only by rulers and those designated by them.

A majority of Independent voters (86 percent), Democrats (80 percent), young voters age 18-29 (83 percent), Hispanic voters (80 percent), and those who voted for President Obama (80 percent) support the right to carry a firearm.

NRA-ILA: Friday, August 07, 2009
The United States Senate recently voted on an amendment that would have allowed Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry in all other states that also grant carry permits. The amendment, sponsored by Sens. John Thune (R-S.D.) and David Vitter (R-La.), won a significant majority of votes, 58 to 39, but failed to reach the 60 votes needed to avoid a Senate filibuster.
Anti-gun senators have long argued that the majority of Americans do not support firearm freedoms. They made this erroneous claim once again during the debate on the Thune/Vitter amendment. Now, a new poll has proven them wrong.
Conducted by Zogby International and The O'Leary Report, the poll looked at Americans' opinions on some key issues related to the Second Amendment. One of the questions asked: "Currently, 39 states have laws that allow residents to carry firearms to protect themselves, only if they pass a background check and pay a fee to cover administrative costs. Most of those states also require applicants to have firearms safety training. Do you support or oppose this law?"
It will come as a shock to the 39 senators who voted to deny law-abiding Americans their right to self-defense when traveling outside their home states, but the results showed that 83% of Americans support Right-to-Carry laws. The poll also revealed that support for Right-to-Carry crosses party lines, with 86% of independent voters and 80% of Democratic voters supporting Right-to-Carry. This is no surprise to gun owners, however, who have long known that the majority of Americans support the Second Amendment and the right to self-defense.
The anti-gun community is trumpeting its 39-vote procedural "victory" as a major achievement. But just like the vote in the Senate, the overwhelming majority of Americans are on our side.

Ignatius Piazza: DON’T DO THIS and You’ll Shoot Better Than 99% of All Gun Owners.
So how do you fix this problem that 99% of the shooting population has to a lesser or greater degree? Stop shooting so much and DRY PRACTICE. Do lots of PERFECT Dry Practice. 95% of your practice should be dry (gun unloaded) and every time you press the trigger you want to take the slack out and press smoothly and evenly until the hammer falls without the muzzle (focus on the front sight) moving or dipping. This reflexively trains your brain, nerves and trigger finger muscles to allow a surprise trigger break and this results in super accurate shooting.

Is New York safer?
For myself, without yet suggesting that others follow me in an open boycott, I will not personally travel in a state where civilians carry loaded weapons onto the sidewalks and as a means of political protest. I not only believe such practices are a threat to the future of our democracy, but I am firmly convinced that they would also endanger my own personal safety there. And therefore I will cancel any plans to vacation or otherwise visit in Arizona until I learn more. And I will begin thinking about whether tourists should safeguard themselves by avoiding stays in Arizona.

Dear Supporter of Concealed Carry,
SAFE OC Political Action Committee is pleased to announce its upcoming event, "An Evening With John R. Lott, Ph.D.," on November 4th at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
Dr. Lott is Senior Research Scientist at the University of Maryland, College Park, and is the author of "More Guns, Less Crime," "The Bias Against Guns," and "Freedomnomics." His research demonstrates that states that enact "shall issue" concealed carry laws experience a decrease in violent crime and consequently an increase in public safety.
The evening will include a cocktail reception beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., including a presentation by Dr. Lott on his research into the relationship between CCW and public safety. Proceeds from the event will go to support SAFE OC's effort to elect a pro-CCW Sheriff of Orange County.
Bill Hunt, former Chief of Police for San Clemente and candidate for Sheriff in 2010, will attend the event as well. Mr. Hunt has publicly pledged to restore liberal CCW issuance if elected, and SAFE OC has endorsed Mr. Hunt unanimously.
With appointed sheriff Hutchens aggressively fundraising and garnering some endorsements from leading elected officials, it is time for pro-CCW citizens to rally and strike back. If you are a current or former CCW holder, you invested hundreds if not thousands of dollars to obtain your CCW -- won't you consider investing an equal amount to preserve your rights?
Don't miss this exciting event and the chance to support a Sheriff who will respect your right to personal safety and our Orange County values of freedom and trust between law enforcement and citizenry.
Hope to see you on November 4!
SAFE OC

You can't get any clearer than this. Get behind him now.
Hunt has criticized Hutchens’ policies as being too restrictive. "I believe that your constitutional rights should be protected," Hunt said to the crowd of between 60 to 80 people. "My policy will be if you apply and are not prohibited by law from having a CCW, I'll give it to you."

It seems to me they are sending down their bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don't want a government-run health care plan forced upon them," Mr. Voight says. "So I ask again. Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?"

I remember Jack Anderson at April's GOP Central Committee meeting, trying to block the resolution opposing Hutchens' ccw policy. I remember him flying off the handle when someone suggested his role at the meeting was inappropriate given his status with OCSD.
In the excerpt of his email below, forwarded to Central Committee members, Jack Anderson indicates he does not believe concealed carry is protected by the Second Amendment right to bear ams, and furthermore he does not even seem to allow for reasonable good cause analysis taking into account the excellent experience we have had with RTC spreading nationally over the last several decades:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have heard supporters of the ill thought out resolution argue that our Central Committee needs to return to the core Republican platform which includes supporting any attempts to infringe upon the right to bear arms. Sheriff Hutchens has repeatedly stated that she supports the 2nd Amendment, she is not taking anyone’s gun away, she is merely insuring CCW licenses are issued in accordance with the law. I’ve heard the argument that the right to bear arms includes to bear arms concealed anywhere and that California should be a “right to carry concealed” state like some 38 other states in the nation. Only our legislators in Sacramento can make that happen, the State’s 58 county Sheriffs and over 400 Chiefs of Police don’t make the law but we expect them to follow the law.

After over 23 years of proud service to the Orange County community, I will be leaving the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in mid-September 2009. It has been my privilege and my honor to have served among some of the finest people in the profession during my tenure. I wish to thank all of you who make up this great organization and the other members of the County’s service community who have been supportive of both me and the department. You all have my admiration for the good you do daily in making Orange County a better and safer community.

CAL-ERT 08/18/09 --- Noon^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE ALERT This information is accurate at the time this CAL-ERT was written and originally distributed. The NRA Members' Councils of California and the California Rifle and Pistol Association have issued this alert in a cooperative effort and will keep you informed as the legislative situation changes in Sacramento.
LEGISLATION PENDING: (This is a partial list. Complete list is found at http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml) The California State Legislature is back in session and two very bad anti-gun bills could be voted on at any time. Please take the requested action to oppose both of these bills. Your support is critical if we are to defeat this unreasonable legislation.
AB962 (DeLeon) AMMUNITION SALES RESTRICTIONS This bill would:
• establish a database and a program administered and maintained by the Department of Justice for licensing handgun ammunition vendors.
• require that commencing July 1, 2010, unless specifically excluded, no person shall sell or transfer more than 50 rounds of handgun ammunition in any month unless he or she is registered as a handgun ammunition vendor.
• also provide that no retail seller of ammunition shall sell, offer for sale, or display for sale, any handgun ammunition in a manner that allows that ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without the assistance of the retailer or employee thereof.
• further provide that handgun ammunition may only be purchased in a face-to-face transaction and only if certain conditions exist. This restriction would eliminate mail-order and Internet sales of ammunition.
• require certain ammunition vendors to obtain a thumbprint and other information from ammunition purchasers, and would require submission of that information to the Department of Justice.
Furthermore, if AB962 were to pass, it would potentially halt all smallbore rifle youth programs, including ROTC, Boy Scouts Girl Scouts and 4-H shooting sports programs. Friends and family-members who provide ammunition to each-other could become criminals if this bill were to become law.
STATUS: AB962 has been moved to the Suspense File in the Senate Appropriations Committee and can be voted on at any time.
POSITION: NRA & CRPA STRONGLY OPPOSE
________________________________________
SB585 (Leno) – GUN SHOW BAN This bill would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace and would thereby make a violation of that prohibition a misdemeanor. This bill would ban having a gun show at the Cow Palace, which is a state owned facility in the South San Francisco area. If it passes, it will likely be expanded to ban gun shows on any public property, such as fairgrounds, throughout the State. It is a major attack on the right of sportsmen and other firearms owners to assemble, communicate with each other, and to purchase new, used and collectible firearms, accessories and sporting supplies.
STATUS: SB585 is now on the Assembly Floor and can be voted on at any time.
POSITION: NRA & CRPA STRONGLY OPPOSE
Facts regarding SB585:
• Law enforcement fears that the lack of the gun show would drive firearms sales underground due to the lack of a the gun show as a regulated location for such sales to take place.
• The unfair lack of access to this publicly-owned venue restricts the First Amendment Rights of many thousands of attendees who have done nothing wrong and should not have to endure such censorship.
• The gun show promoters, including Crossroads of the West (who produce the show at the Cow Palace) worked with law enforcement, the state fair board and others, in support of AB295 several years ago. AB295 provided protections, including event operation under the strict scrutiny of law enforcement, at all gun shows in the state.
• Gun show promoters in California, including Crossroads of the West, have a close working relationship with law enforcement agencies (at all levels) due to the nature of cooperation that exists at gun shows, such as the one at the Cow Palace.
• California has the toughest gun show laws of any state in the nation. Currently, California's gun shows are monitored by local, state, and federal enforcement agencies and all firearms transactions are required to be processed by dealers who possess federal, state, and local licenses.
• Buying a firearm at a gun show is no different than going to a firearms dealer's store. All firearms transactions occur only after a comprehensive background check that includes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be delivered to the new owner. SB585 is an attempt by anti-firearms rights activists to find more creative ways to discourage people from owning firearms! Like most such bills, it would have no impact on criminals, just on lawful individuals!
• Please note: As a major gun show promoter throughout California, Crossroads of the West Gun Shows (Bob and Lynn Templeton) have been STRONG NRA supporters for more than twenty years. Their efforts to support the NRA have resulted in the recruitment/retention of tens-of-thousands of NRA members throughout this time. And as we all know, this is California -- a battleground state for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and every NRA member is important to the survival of the Second Amendment.
IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED: LET'S RAMP-UP THE PRESSURE!!!
• Please continue to contact the Senate Appropriations Committee and urge a NO vote on AB 962.
• Please contact the members of the Assembly and urge a NO vote on SB 585.
Note: Please remember to be professional, courteous and concise.

The images you see at left and below are taken from the blog of a gentleman I met on February 20, 2009, in the parking lot outside my office. The circumstances of our meeting are largely captured by the 911 recording (via Bluetooth EARPIECE!) you can hear by turning up your speakers and refreshing this page. I made the call to 911 as I approached to help someone I thought was having a seizure. I did not realize the whole building was in lockdown due to this upstairs university student. You can hear him admitting insanity, then (abruptly rising to his feet) shouting "IF I SEE F***S ON THE STREET I'M GONNA KILL 'EM!" I was the only one on the street, about 6 to 8 feet away when the large man uttered the word "kill" - one second later, my weapon was out (low ready, not pointed in) and I was shouting "STOP RIGHT THERE! STOP RIGHT THERE!" as I backed up. He kept coming toward me even as I withdrew, until I quit talking to 911 and stood my ground briefly with more aggressive stance and demeanor (weapon still at low ready). Many witnesses watched from above including several, ironically, from the conference room six floors up where I would teach a concealed carry class the following morning. Does this man have radical views as an Arab Muslim?

Ayn was born shortly before Helen became "naturalized" but "natural born" citizenship may follow that of the father:
Defining Natural-Born Citizen - The Federalist Blog.
Therefore, we can say with confidence that a natural-born citizen of the United States means those persons born whose father the United States already has an established jurisdiction over, i.e., born to father’s who are themselves citizens of the United States. A person who had been born under a double allegiance cannot be said to be a natural-born citizen of the United States because such status is not recognized (only in fiction of law). A child born to an American mother and alien father could be said to be a citizen of the United States by some affirmative act of law but never entitled to be a natural-born citizen because through laws of nature the child inherits the condition of their father.

It's not just those "packing," but also the family members, employees, customers, etc., they protect, and all of those who know they should be doing the same thing but just haven't gotten around to it or don't know how to start. Gun owners are knowledgeable and dedicated voters and educators of their fellow citizens. Even now, there is no more active group politically, and there is no political precedent for depriving large numbers of American parents of reasonable means to protect their families. One hopes they realize what they are getting into before it's too late.
Gun owners are packing heat in record numbers, fearful of stricter gun control under the Obama administration and higher crime in a sour economy. Some states and counties report a surge in applications for concealed weapons permits since the November election. All states but Illinois and Wisconsin allow concealed weapons, but requirements differ.
