WND: Constitution Party candidate says U.S. sovereignty at risk

Link: Constitution Party candidate says U.S. sovereignty at risk.

"I really believe that our nation is fast becoming a nation that does not respect the freedoms and liberties that this country was founded upon," Chuck Baldwin told WND in an exclusive one-on-one interview today. "George Bush's Patriot Act ... in essence eviscerated the Fourth Amendment and did serious damage to other amendments in the Bill of Rights. I do believe that this burgeoning North American Union that Dr. Corsi has written so much about ... is a real threat to our national sovereignty and our national independence." Baldwin, picked the party's candidate recently at its national convention in Kansas City over the higher-profile Ambassador Alan Keyes, is the founder and pastor of Crossroad Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla. He also hosts a weekly radio program called "Chuck Baldwin Live" and he serves as a columnist whose political commentaries are carried by a number of websites, newspapers and magazines. Baldwin also has written two books, "Subjects Seldom Spoken On" and "This Is The Life," as well as a number of theological booklets. He also was the Constitution Party's vice presidential candidate in 2004.

NRA CAL-ERT on Ammo-Edge-To-Criminals Bill (a/k/a Practice-Shooting-Less Bill)

VIRTUAL LOBBY-DAY, Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Join us and help defeat the ammunition registration bill AB 2062

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!!!

IT'S TIME TO LIGHT-UP THE PHONES IN SACRAMENTO!

In Sacramento, the anti-gun hysteria is at a fever pitch, and extremist groups and legislators are promoting even more of it.

Working in conjunction with the NRA-ILA State Liaison, Ed Worley, the NRA Members' Councils have - for the last several years - used their latest Internet based communication system to deliver a crushing volume of calls, faxes and emails into the State Capitol.  IT WILL SOON BE TIME TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE ON SACRAMENTO!

One of the biggest threats to firearms owners is AB 2062.  Assembly Bill 2062 (De Leon) imposes:
(1) an ammunition purchasers permit requirement for Californians to purchase handgun ammo
(2) a fee for each Handgun ammo purchase
(3) requires a state license to sell ammunition
(4) more unfair restrictions on law-abiding gun owners.............

YOU CAN HELP PROTECT THE 2nd AMENDMENT AND STOP  ANTI-FREEDOM SCHEMES LIKE AB 2062 ! ! !

SITUATION;  AB 2062 is a clear and present danger to all firearms owners in California!  The NRA has been actively opposing AB 2062.  Refer to the following pages for more information:
http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040108.shtml & http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert040808.shtml .

  • AB 2062 is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday, May 7th, in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
  • Several groups are coordinating active opposition to the overbearing restrictions of AB 2062.
  • The NRA realizes that most California gun owners cannot take the time off of work and pay the ever-increasing fuel prices required to personally attend a "Lobby-Day" in the State Capitol in Sacramento.
  • The NRA has made our legislative contact resources available to you, the firearms owner, so that you can participate in our statewide coordinated effort to oppose AB 2062....... no matter where you are located.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:  Tell the Legislators to stop supporting ill-conceived gun control proposals, such as the AB 2062 ammunition sales restriction scheme, by participating in NRA's Virtual Lobby-Day on Tuesday, May 6th.

  • RIGHT NOW: Send this message to every gun owner you know.  Include all: gun clubs, stores, ranges, RKBA groups, etc.  Cross-post this on the Internet - on web sites and firearm-related forums.  Email this link http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert042908.shtml to everyone you know.
  • RIGHT NOW: On the Internet, go to the California Legislative Contact Page at: http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml and use our ONE-CLICK email delivery system to contact the Assembly with a single message in opposition to AB 2062. Note: emails will be received in the legislators offices with the "From:" field set to the ORIGINAL SENDER. Remember that you are sending a single Email to several people. You should address your message accordingly. Example: Dear Assembly Member, . (Legislators will not see that they are receiving the same message as the others.)
  • TUESDAY, MAY 6TH: Call and Fax the legislature and voice your opposition to more gun control proposals!  And make those phone calls/faxes between 9:00AM until 4:00PM. Those firearms owners who can travel to the State Capitol will be visiting the legislative offices at the same time your calls and faxes will be arriving. Please be polite while you get your point across to them!  The combination of your calls, faxes, and emails, together with those personal visits, will show the legislators that California's firearms owners strongly opposed AB 2062 and similar legislative proposals.  Contact information, including phone and fax numbers, is listed on the CA Legislative Contact Pages at: http://www.calnra.com/legs/asm.shtml .

Together, our voices will be heard and we can stop the anti-freedom forces and win back our rights!

Hammer Checks Chamber on Florida Employee Self-Defense Law

Link (Marion Hammer, Tampa Tribune): It's About The Second Amendment And Nothing Else.

Clearly, the state can - and did - act to protect the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves when traveling and in publicly accessible parking lots. It is definitely a safety issue, as a living person is clearly more important than an asphalt parking lot. NRA believes in private property rights, but unlike citizens, corporations are discretionary creations of government. They come into existence through charters created by legislatures. Corporate interests don't override the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Shrill arguments for property rights or profits must not take precedence over the lives of hardworking men and women. An employer's political philosophy or contempt for firearms rights does not trump a law-abiding person's fundamental, right to self-protection.

Fox News does everyone a great service by providing Rev. Wright's entire "God Damn America" sermon here. Rev. Wright claims that the "God Damn America" sermon was taken out of context. Sorry, but I don't believe that anyone can listen to this sermon and think that his "God Damn America" are taken out of context. The whole sermon is about how evil the American government is (e.g., the "government lied" phrase must have been used 15 to 20 times in Part 3). The "God Damn America" discussion is just summarizing what he was saying up to that point. The sermon starts off slowly enough, but by the time you get to Part 2 it is going pretty strong. The "God Damn America" phrase is in Part 3. This is a very long sermon, but if you only have time to listen to one part, please listen to Part 3, which is about 16 minutes long. No one can listen to this sermon and think that "God Damn America" sermon was taken out of context. Indeed, there are so many offensive things in this sermon that Obama was spared by the media just using the few out takes that were used.

Revelations 7:3 and Environmentalist Brainwashing

I'm no Bible scholar but I'll respond as best as I can to a some unfortunate brainwashing my daughter was just subjected to yesterday (Earth Day), relating to environmental issues like global warming, recycling, etc.  Such false propaganda should not be tolerated in this debate, and certainly should have no place in our Catholic schools.

She came home with a pictorial representation she was instructed to draw, depicting Revelations 7:3 "Hurt not the earth nor the sea nor the trees".  It is clear to me after some brief research that this was taken WAY out of context and that the command is not to us but to the "four angels" sent or allowed to wreak havoc and destruction.  The command is for them to delay destruction until Christians are "sealed."

So by definition, the command is not directed to Christians.

Obviously, waste is not good and pollution's negative externalities should be incorporated into a polluter's costs, but with all of the brainwashing apparently even in our Catholic schools kids can't even get good science on what "pollution" is - certainly, most readers of this blog would agree there is no significant anthropogenic global warming.

Link: CATHOLIC BIBLE: Apocalypse 7.

1 After these things, I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that they should not blow upon the earth nor upon the sea nor on any tree. 2 And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the sign of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3 Saying: Hurt not the earth nor the sea nor the trees, till we sign the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Fred Schnaubelt: Why Dr. Martin Luther King Was A Republican

Another great email from Fred:

WHY DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS A REPUBLICAN
By Fred Schnaubelt

Barack Obama has asked for a dialogue on race. Before beginning at the beginning of institutional racism in the U.S. do you remember Bull Connor in Birmingham, Alabama? He was the sheriff who unleashed police attack dogs and high pressure fire hoses on African-American children peacefully demonstrating in the 1960s.  Those compelling TV pictures spread like a Rodney King beating across the country burning indelible impressions on me and all who watched. Bull Connor changed Civil Rights forever.

Sheriff Bull Connor was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a racist and a Democrat, even though many people today mistakenly believe he was a Republican.

Condoleezza Rice speaking at Vanderbilt University said that when she was growing up it was the Democrats who refused to register her father to vote but Republicans did.

Reverend Wayne Perryman, a Seattle minister and the author of
Unfounded Loyalty, takes us back to the beginning of institutionalized racism in the U.S.   He filed in December 2004 a class action suit against the Democratic Party for reparations for its 200 years of oppression. The Democrat Party, since inception until 1964 was the party of slavery, secession and segregation. wayneperryman.com

“Most people are either a Democrat by design, or a Democrat by deception,” writes Perryman. “They either know the racist history of the Democrat Party and still chose to be a Democrat, or they were deceived into believing it a party that sincerely cared about Black people.” Although he is quick to concede the Democratic Party of today is not the same as the party of the past.

1. Perryman, articulates the following chronology: “History reveals that every piece of racist legislation that was ever passed and every racist terrorist attack that was ever inflicted on African-Americans was initiated by the members of the Democratic Party. From the formation of the Democratic Party in 1792 to the Civil Rights movement of 1960's, Congressional records show the Democrat Party passed no specific laws to help Blacks and every law that they introduced into Congress was designed to hurt Blacks.”

2. History reveals that the Republican Party was formed in 1854 to abolish slavery and challenge other racist legislative acts initiated by the Democratic Party.  Some called it the Civil War, others called it the War Between the States, but to the African-Americans at that time, it was the War Between the Democrats and the Republicans over slavery. The Democrats gave their lives to expand it; Republicans gave their lives to ban it.”

3. During the Senate debates on the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, it was revealed that members of the Democratic Party formed many terrorist organizations like the Ku Klux Klan to murder and intimidate African-Americans voters. The Ku Klux Klan Act was a bill introduced by a Republican Congress to stop Klan Activities. Senate debates revealed that the Klan was the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party.”

Perryman’s indictment continues: From 1792 until 2004, the Democratic Party (the oldest political party in America) never elected a Black man to the United States Senate, while the Republicans elected three.

During the first civil rights era it was Abolitionists and Radical Republicans such as Henry L. Morehouse (Morehouse University) and General Oliver Howard (Howard University) who founded many traditional Black colleges. Republicans fought to open them while Democrats fought to close them which is why many traditional Black colleges are named after white Republicans.

In the infamous 1857 Dred Scott decision Court records shows that it was the Democrats, with Chief Justice Roger Taney writing the majority opinion who classified Blacks as property rather than people. It was the racist laws of the Democrats that were responsible for two subsequent landmark cases:  Plessy v Ferguson (separate but equal) and Brown v. The Board of Education. (“Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.”)

Congressional records show that Democrats vigorously opposed the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments (introduced by Republicans) to abolish slavery, give citizenship to all African Americans born in the United States and, give Blacks the right to vote. Democrats voted unanimously against the 15th Amendment.

Congressional records prove that Democrats worked hard and long to prevent passage of the following laws that were passed by Republicans to achieve civil rights for African-Americans:
Civil Rights Act 1866
Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871
Civil Rights Act of 1875
Civil Rights Act of 1957 (Pres. Eisenhower signed, Sen. John F. Kennedy voted against)

During the 1960's many Democrats, including Senators Al Gore Sr., Robert Byrd and Sam Erwin fought indefatigably to filibuster the 1964 Civil Rights Act (which passed only because more Republicans voted for it than Democrats).  Democrat Senator Richard Russell addressed the Senate stating, “We will resist to the bitter end any measure which would have a tendency to bring about social equality and intermingling and amalgamation of the races…” With 18 Democrat Senators he organized the longest filibuster (56 days) in Senate history.

After signing the 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act and issuing Executive Order 11478, Richard Nixon, a Republican, started what we know as Affirmative Action.

Not widely known, it was three white persons in opposition to the Democrats’ racist practices who started the NAACP.

While Democrats would prefer it suppressed, it was Democratic Attorney General, Robert Kennedy working for his brother the President, who approved secret wire taps and hidden microphones under Dr. Martin Luther King’s bed. The tapes were sent to his wife. Given the historical record of Republicans and Democrats then is it any wonder that Dr. King, like his life-long- Republican father, would be a Republican.

Republican President Ronald Reagan, over the objections of racist Republican Senator Jessie Helms, signed the law making Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday.

Today, after exclusively giving the Democrats their votes for the past 25 years, Perryman says the average African-American cannot point to one piece of civil rights legislation sponsored solely by the Democratic Party that was specifically designed to eradicate the unique problems that African-Americans face today. The Congressional record shows that all legislation (since 1964) has had strong bi-partisan support.

So how did the Democratic Party turn things around and get the support of Black Americans?  President Lyndon Johnson took a hint from Otto Von Bismarck, father of the modern welfare state who wooed voters by inducing them to become dependents of the government. With the right to vote “uppity” African-Americans were fast becoming the dominant force in Southern politics and to insure the very survival of the Democratic Party it was imperative they be co-opted.  Johnson was able to contrive the most brilliant public relations turnaround in the history of the United Sates.  This was done through redistributive economics, by in effect, paying African-Americans to vote for Democrats in spite of the racist history of the Democratic Party.  It was accomplished primarily through promises and concessions and the redistribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in “entitlement” programs commencing with the “War on Poverty” and “Great Society” programs.  Barack Obama is right about one thing when he speaks of “promises not kept.”  That has been the hallmark of the Democratic Party.

Rev. Perryman admonishes both parties to remember their past. “The Democrats must remember the terrible things they did to Blacks and apologize and the Republicans must remember the terrific things they did for Blacks and re-commit to complete the work that their predecessors started and died for.”

Schnaubelt, a San Diego City Councilman from 1977 – 1981 was San Diego’s first elected official to hire an African-American Chief of Staff, brought Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams to address the City Council, and was credited by Clarence Pendleton for his conversion from Democrat to Republican when appointed Chairman of the Civil Rights Commission.

Fred Schnaubelt: California Eminent Domain Proposition 99 is Sham...Support Prop 98

League of Cities Pushes Sham Eminent Domain Proposition 99
Loophole Exposed

The League of Cities and California State Association of Counties have placed on the June ballot a deceptive and competing proposition 99 to specifically confuse and neutralize the citizens Proposition 98 which seriously limits Eminent Domain abuse.

A new independent analysis by the Institute for Justice, a non-profit organization that represented Susette Kelo before the U.S. Supreme Court reports that public agencies can easily circumvent so-called protections under Proposition 99 by first rezoning residential land to a commercial zone.  This is usually the intent anyway when the government takes private homes to give to private developers in order to obtain higher property taxes through greater development.

Additionally, their Prop. 99 allows the condemning of tax exempt church land to be given at less than Fair Market Value to billion dollar companies such as Costco which  pay huge sales taxes to local governments.

It is clear why the States independent Legislative Analysts Office has stated that the sham Prop. 99 is "not likely to significantly alter current government land acquisition practices."

Whereas Proposition 98 not only limits the governments ability to take property from present owners and give it to others to make a profit Prop 98 also prevents churches and small businesses from being condemned for the benefit of big-box stores and sports arenas.  It restores the 5th Amendment to the Constitution. It decontrols rental units when protected tenants move freeing up the unit to be re-rented at Fair Market Value. As long as tenants remain in place they remain under rent control.

The opponents of Proposition 98, mostly government agencies or recipients of government handouts, are doing everything possible to confuse voters and obfuscate what’s at stake.  They say letting people keep their homes and businesses is too complicated and confusing.  They say voters should trust politicians and not put any limitations in the Constitution.  James Madison said, “If men were angels no government would be necessary.”  Apparently, the Leagues of Cities and State Association of Counties believe that politicians since Madison’s time have suddenly become angels and trustworthy. There is no longer any need to bind them down with the chains of the Constitution.

The opponents of Proposition 98 say if approved by the voters, California will run out of safe drinking water.  Some people wonder why those people who support more government power could use such scare tactics to confuse the people. Of course those who support the governments proposition 99 want to frighten people into believing government should have the power to decide how development should take place and who should be the winners and losers rather than leaving it up to the free market.

Under Proposition 98 the government of Yolo County (or any California county or city)  for instance would be prohibited from condemning a working ranch having 50,000 acre feet of water (which it tried)  just to prevent it from ever being developed without even a claim that the use of  Eminent Domain was for a public benefit or for public use.

We should not be confused by the government’s ploy in support of Proposition 99 that will give unlimited power to government to continue taking private property under the false claim of a public good. We must understand that under proposition 98 the government can still utilize Eminent Domain for legitimate public uses such as dams, waterways, right-of-ways for water and sewer etc., therefore Proposition 98 is responsible and good for the people.  If both Propositions pass the government's Proposition 99 will prevail killing the protections afforded under Proposition Prop. 98.

CPPR strongly urges defenders of property rights, the Fifth Amendment and individual freedom to oppose the government's Proposition 99 and support Proposition 98, the people’s proposition.

News on Pending Second Amendment-Related Bills in California!
Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Please Contact Your State Assembly Member Today!

On Tuesday, April 15, numerous bills affecting our Second Amendment rights were considered by the California Legislature.

The Assembly Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill 2235, a bill to forbid the sale of handguns other than "owner-authorized (or “smart”) handguns" -- that is, handguns with a permanent, programmable biometric feature that renders the firearm useless unless activated by the authorized user.   No proven, viable handgun of this type has ever been developed.  AB2235 now heads to the Assembly floor for consideration.

Introduced by Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier (D-11), AB2235 would require the Attorney General to report to the Governor and Legislature on the availability of owner-authorized handguns; once the Attorney General finds that these guns are available, only “owner-authorized” handguns could be approved for sale in California.

The law enforcement community has even expressed concerns about the use of this technology in firearms.  How often has your computer malfunctioned while simply sitting stationary on your desktop?  With that in mind, are you willing to put your personal safety, and that of your loved ones, in the hands of a sensitive computer system exposed to recoil, heat, solvents, dirt and grime?  For an informative article about smart guns and the New Jersey law this bill is based on, please click here.

Assembly Bill 2948, sponsored by State Assembly Member Mark Leno (D-13) was approved by the Assembly Business and Professions Committee and now is en route to the Assembly floor for deliberation.  AB2948 would ban the sale of firearms and ammunition on the property or inside the buildings that comprise the Cow Palace.

While these threats to our rights have made it to the Assembly floor, one attack of anti-freedom forces was thwarted.  Assembly Bill 2566 by State Assembly Member Loni Hancock (D-14), failed to pass in the Assembly Public Safety Committee.  AB2566 would have repealed statewide preemption statutes and allowed cities, counties, and other such localities to enact their own forms of restrictive regulation on handguns.  Uniform laws regulating firearms and ammunition are necessary to protect the constitutional rights of California’s law-abiding gun owners and to prevent anti-gun municipalities from passing their own laws, which may conflict with state law.

Please contact your State Assembly Member and respectfully urge him or her to oppose AB2235 and AB2948 when it comes before them for a vote.  Contact information can be found by clicking here.

UK Gun Control Leads to Infantiphobia

Link: LaPierre Blog: Afraid of the Children.

As if we needed any more evidence that England's gun ban has been a total failure, just look at the recent story from Time magazine. Twenty percent of Britons surveyed say they fear leaving their homes at night because of the rising tide of violent teens.

Violent crime committed by those under the age of 18 has climbed by more than a third in the past three years, with no sign of it falling any time soon. These violent teens are partly responsible for the rise in knife- and gun-related crime in the country. Yes, crimes involving firearms are increasing, even though it's been a decade since the country banned handguns.

Talk to a former British gun owner, and he or she will tell you, "Don't let it happen in America."  Gun bans don't work to reduce crime. They haven't worked in D.C., and they haven't worked in England. A "tough-on-guns/soft-on-crime" approach is lunacy, but that's exactly what they're doing in England. Frankly, it's what the gun-banning politicians are trying to do in Philadelphia right now, by pushing for more gun control laws without even mentioning the criminals committing the violent crimes.

Every day politicians try to blame law-abiding gun owners for violent crime is another day lost in our fight against the gang members and drug dealers who target our children. How long will the politicians play the blame game instead of tackling the problem head-on? Do things have to get so bad that we're afraid to leave our homes? Do we have to wait until we turn into England?

Link: UNIAN - Ukraine Foreign Ministry sends note to Russia, requesting explanation.

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has sent a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry, requesting an immediate explanation from Russia over the recent statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to the press-service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the note requests an explanation for the following statements: at Russia-NATO Council on April 4 of the current year, the Russian Federation President said: “Ukraine is not even a state! A part of its territory is Eastern Europe, and a part, a significant one, was presented by us!”. According to Kommersant newspaper, he [Putin] also made it clear that if Ukraine is adopted to NATO, this state would merely disappear. In fact, he threatened that Russia may begin procedures to seize the Crimea and the Eastern Ukraine. On April 8, Russian Foreign Minister S.Lavrov, in his interview with “Ekho Moskvy” radio, confirmed the information, publicized by Kommersant newspaper. Besides, he added: “We will do everything to prevent Ukraine and Georgia from joining NATO”.

Solzhenitsyn`s curious change of heart

Link: UNIAN - Solzhenitsyn`s curious change of heart.

The famine of 1932-33 resulted in the loss of millions of innocent lives in Ukraine and the largely Ukrainian-populated Kuban area of the Russian Federation. The debate about whether it meets the legal requirements of a genocide is still going on. But what is clear today is the crucial role played by the Communist authorities in creating conditions for the famine, as well as their willingness to use hunger as a political tool to teach the rebellious peasantry a lesson. By treating the peasantry`s resistance to forceful collectivization as a manifestation and result of its susceptibility to Ukrainian nationalist ideology, and by closing the borders of Ukraine to prevent the escape of starving refugees and preclude the importing of food to Ukraine, the Communist authorities turned the famine into a Ukrainian national catastrophe. Solzhenitsyn`s assertion that the treatment of the famine of 1932-33 as a genocide is the product of "spiteful, anti-Russian, chauvinistic minds" can be understood only if one equates the Communist government and the Russian people. Solzhenitsyn spent a good part of his life arguing that Communism and Russia were incompatible. His op-ed raises the question of whether he still believes in this.

NRA: McCain has ‘work to do’ with gun owners

Link: TheHill.com - McCain has ‘work to do’ with gun owners: NRA.

If Sen. John McCain expects the support of gun owners in this year’s presidential race, the Arizona Republican must make an effort to overcome some decisions the National Rifle Association (NRA) has found troubling. “John McCain still has some work to do to give them a comfort level,” Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA, said during an interview with The Hill. “Truth be told, he’s not there yet.”

SF Gun Ban Dead

San Francisco Prop H Dead!

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Fairfax, VA -The California State Supreme Court has ruled that Proposition H, the draconian gun ban proposed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors violates California law. This exhausts all possible avenues for appeal by the Board of Supervisors. Proposition H would ban the manufacture, distribution, sale and transfer of firearms and ammunition within San Francisco. The National Rifle Association was the lead organization fighting this ban.

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre welcomed the ruling stating, "Freedom and common sense have prevailed today. Proposition H was a foolish scheme that would have disarmed only the law-abiding in San Francisco. The NRA said that we will do everything we can to overturn this ill-conceived gun ban and I am pleased to say that we have delivered on that promise."

Earlier this year, San Francisco asked the California Supreme Court to review a Court of Appeal's decision asserting that under California law, local officials do not have the authority to ban firearms from law abiding residents. That ruling was made by San Francisco Superior Court Judge James Warren and was later upheld in a unanimous opinion from a three judge panel in the Court of Appeals issued in January, 2008.

Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist, stated, "We are pleased with the Supreme Court ruling.. The NRA filed our lawsuit after Proposition H passed arguing that the proposition was in violation of California preemption laws that clearly assert that firearm laws are regulated by the state and not local municipalities. Our belief that the authors of this measure authored this proposed measure with gross disregard of California law has been confirmed by the Supreme Court. Regrettably, San Francisco taxpayers had to bear the considerable financial burden to satisfy the careless political whim of their elected officials."

The San Francisco Police Officers Association also opposed the ban, stating that the new law nullified "the personal choice of city residents to lawfully possess a handgun for self-defense purposes."

-NRA-

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen's group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation's leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.

Armed Citizens Kill Four Times as Many Civilians in Self-Defense as Police

Interesting stat mentioned by NRA Dep. General Counsel Stefan Tahmassebi just now on www.nranews.com - have not heard this before - if I heard correctly, armed citizens "kill" four times as many felons in self-defense as do police, and this stat only accounts for justifiable homicides determined as a result of prosecution.  Not counted are the many cases not prosecuted.

Of course, DGU's do not always result in fatality and it is estimated that 80% are mere brandishings, harmless but effective.

Heston Obit Exposes Racist History of Gun Control

Link: Defending freedom | Comment is free.

What a turnaround. Demanding gun control has traditionally been the preserve of reactionary, even racist elements in American society. Up until the 1980s, gun control was mostly a conservative campaign, driven by a conviction amongst right-leaning activists, politicians and lawmakers that ordinary people, especially those of the non-white variety, could not possibly be trusted with guns. Only the state, they believed, should have the right to use fatal physical force.

The Great Famine-Genocide in Soviet Ukraine (Holodomor)

Link: The Great Famine-Genocide in Soviet Ukraine (Holodomor).

In 1988 the US Commission on the Ukraine Famine arrived at nineteen findings, among them (No. 16) that what happened to the Ukrainians in 1932-1933 constituted genocide.[1] This was, fact the most important of the commission's conclusions, and as the person who drafted those conclusions for the commission's approval, I feel a certain responsibility to defend it in this journal in the light of new evidence that has been made available after the collapse of the Soviet Union and published by scholars in Ukraine.

Vodka-maker Absolut "apologizes" and pulls "Reconquista" Ad

Link: Vodka-maker Absolut apologizes, ends ad showing California, Texas as part of Mexico - International Herald Tribune.

MEXICO CITY: The Absolut vodka company apologized Saturday for an ad campaign depicting the southwestern U.S. as part of Mexico amid angry calls for a boycott by U.S. consumers. The campaign, which promotes ideal scenarios under the slogan "In an Absolut World," showed a 1830s-era map when Mexico included California, Texas and other southwestern states. Mexico still resents losing that territory in the 1848 Mexican-American War and the fight for Texas independence. But the ads, which ran only in Mexico and have since ended, were less than ideal for Americans....

This is the "apology":

"As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market, and for that we apologize."

Sick: Solzhenitsyn Criticizes Bush Visit to Holodomor Memorial

Solzhenitsyn is not Jewish so this foolish statement of his against the Bush visit to the holodomor memorial cannot be blamed on concern over cheapening Holocaust impact, or on concern about Jews being blamed because some of them figured prominently among the Bolsheviks.

Rather, it seems borne of his strong Russian nationalist pride and inability to deal with or acknowledge what his own Russia did to Ukraine, land of his mother's family.

This is so sick.  Why not just acknowledge what is obvious? A bunch of evil secularist planners (of varying race and ethnicity), intentionally killed millions of freedom-loving religious people, not only in Germany and various spots in Russia, but also in Ukraine.  Enough with the tortured "reasoning" for keeping quiet about what really happened in Ukraine.  The fact that it happened elsewhere does not negate that it happened in Ukraine, and by design.

Link: Solzhenitsyn battles illness to complete final volumes | News | guardian.co.uk Books.

In a vituperative piece, however, Solzhenitsyn dismissed the claim as 'rakish juggling' and said that millions of non-Ukrainians also perished in the famine, which was engineered by the Soviet Union's leadership. 'This provocative outcry about "genocide"... has been elevated to the top government level in contemporary Ukraine. Does this mean that they have even outdone the Bolshevik propaganda-mongers with their rakish juggling?' an incensed Solzhenistyn wrote. Bush had been duped by a 'loony fable', he added. Yesterday Natalia Solzhenitsyn said that her husband felt passionately about the 'Ukrainian people' because his mother's family came from Ukraine. Asked about Solzhenitsyn's views on Bush, she said: 'Bush was only in Kiev for a few hours. He didn't go to the monument to the victims of fascism but to the holodomor memorial. We don't know whether Bush went there cynically, or because the level of his historical knowledge [is low].'
....
Yesterday DM Thomas, Solzhenitsyn's biographer, said it would be simplistic to describe the novelist as either nationalistic or reactionary. 'Patriotic and religiously conservative might suit,' he told The Observer. 'He disliked the secularism of the West almost as much as he disliked communism. He is in no way nationalistic in the sense of elevating Russia above others, or wishing for territorial aggrandisement... Above all, I think, he is or was a strong Orthodox believer. He hated the Bolshevik revolution, and because Jews played such an important role in that, he has laid himself open to the charge of being anti-semitic. I argued in my biography that this was based on a misunderstanding of his views.'
