The Boggess family, with ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, believe they are the only family with four generations of Eagle Scouts. Boggess IV said he spoke with an author who researched generations of Eagle Scouts who could find families with only three generations who reached that rank. Those meeting the president are: Boggess Jr.; his son, Thomas Shelton Thomas III, 66, of Phoenix, a longtime veterinarian at Kachina Animal Hospital; Boggess IV; and Shelton. The meeting with Bush serves as a final honor for Boggess Jr., a retired government chemist. He drove to Washington, D.C., from Georgia in 1931 and was standing in front of the White House in his Eagle Scout uniform when President Hoover came out and posed for a picture. "That was a long time ago," said Boggess Jr., a native of Mississippi who was named an Eagle Scout in 1926.
