I hold the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP, or CCW) required class at least once every month or two, at my law office in Laguna Hills, Orange County, California.
Here is a flyer for the class, providing a discount:

The permit is currently recognized by 34 states. (SC may be added as 35th, but nothing is sure until UT's legislative session ends in March 2009.) Certain states require UT residence in order to use the UT permit: CO, MI, NH, FL, WV (and SC, if indeed it is added). Remember this stuff changes all the time, and be sure to check with the particular state you are visiting.
As a starting point only, you can check with these sites:

The map below is from USACARRY.com, as at 1/27/09:
I expect the class to fill quickly as I've acquired a laser simulated range, same type used by law enforcement. The entire class, including an added shooting test, is conducted using simulated weapons. The laser range is superior to paper targets in some ways (moving, transitional targets), and it's logistically easier for new students if live fire at the range is not required. [You can get the permit without live fire, or even owning a weapon, but it is made clear to everyone in class that to carry safely, no matter how much training you've had in the past, you must train and practice regularly, including of course firing drills and dry practice with real weapons. Remember, Vermont and Alaska do not even require a permit, and the objective for this course is to efficiently maximize training within the time limits for an entry-level course.)]
