Man stabs 28 children at kindergarten in China - Yahoo! News.
TAIXING, China – The screams of the 4-year-olds inside the kindergarten could be heard out in the street. When people ran in to investigate, they found what one witness said was a scene "too horrible to imagine" — blood everywhere as a knife-wielding man slashed 28 children, two teachers and a security guard Thursday in the second such school attack in China in two days. Experts called it a copycat rampage triggered by similar incidents Wednesday and last month.

There are 40 Right-to-Carry states. Thirty-six have “shall issue” laws, requiring that carry permits be issued to applicants who meet uniform standards established by the state legislature. Three have fairly-administered discretionary-issue carry permit systems. Vermont respects the right to carry without a permit. Alaska and Arizona, two of the “shall issue” states, have permit systems for the purpose of permit reciprocity1 with other states, and have allowed concealed carrying without a permit since 2003 and April 2009, respectively. Of the 10 non-RTC states, eight have restrictively-administered discretionary-issue systems, and two—Illinois and Wisconsin—have no permit system and prohibit carrying.

If there is a philosophical system which teaches that all things material and immaterial, visible and invisible, which the world contains are to be considered only as the several parts of an immense Being, who alone remains eternal amidst the continual change and ceaseless transformation of all that constitutes him, we may readily infer that such a system, although it destroy the individuality of man, or rather because it destroys that individuality, will have secret charms for men living in democracies. All their habits of thought prepare them to conceive it and predispose them to adopt it. It naturally attracts and fixes their imagination; it fosters the pride while it soothes the indolence of their minds. And then at the end the chapter–Tocqueville makes a passionate call against it. He writes Among the different systems by whose aid philosophy endeavors to explain the universe I believe pantheism to be one of those most fitted to seduce the human mind in democratic times. Against it all who abide in their attachment to the true greatness of man should combine and struggle.

For beauty to increase by 1 Ha, a woman must be the most beautiful of twice as many women. One Helen is 25.6 Ha. The most beautiful woman who ever lived would score 34.2 Ha, and 1.34 H, the pick of a dozen women would be 3.6 Ha, and 0.14 H.

The Second Amendment guarantees our freedom ONLY if we live it every day, and that means carrying a weapon EVERY DAY. Too many politicians miss the mark when asked about the Second Amendment, referring to their hunting or military experience, and we must instead elect candidates who, alongside fellow citizens, regularly TRAIN for armed self-defense. We are very fortunate to have Bill Hunt as a candidate who obviously agrees that ‘..'a well-regulated militia’ .. cannot exist unless the people are trained to bearing arms" [SCOTUS 6/26/2008] and "..it is their right AND DUTY TO BE AT ALL TIMES ARMED.." [Thomas Jefferson, 1824].

One of the few blackspots in Reagan's otherwise great public life (Calguns, post by cmth):
I know you hate open carry and take every opportunity to bash those who do it, but you need a history lesson.
The Black Panthers march on the Capitol did not cause the Mulford Act to be passed; the vote was already assured. The bill was being debated in committee when they performed their stunt. It was a tactical mistake from a publicity standpoint, but it had no effect on the outcome of the vote.
The Mulford Act was passed because many minority civil rights activists, the vast majority of whom were not members of the Black Panther Party, were lawfully arming themselves for protection against racist and violent police officers. The cops didn't like the citizens being able to lawfully defend themselves, so they requested assistance from the state legislature, and Governor Ronald Reagan had no problem signing the bill.
Much like today, it was very difficult for the politically-unconnected to obtain a CCW, and was all but impossible if you weren't white, so open carry was their only option. It was not until that right was on the very brink of being taken away did they "march on the Capitol" in protest.
Any time that you exercise a right in California that the state does not think you should have, they will do everything within their power to take that right away. Today is no different than it has ever been.

As I said at the beginning, I don’t have the expertise to know whether Luxenberg is right or wrong. But I do know that there are parts of the Koran that are shockingly contradictory—and Luxenberg’s theory is certainly thought provoking. If Luxenberg is right, Islam is built on at best a severe misreading—and at worst, a cynical manipulation by Arab political leaders more than a thousand years ago. It would certainly force a great many Muslims to rethink their faith—and wonder if Mohammed was actually trying to Christianize the polytheistic desert dwellers of Arabia.

ROFL--From Las Vegas Sun:
But as he walks in one recent afternoon, a bartender who spots the gun is taken aback. She says the only pistol-packing customers she has served are undercover cops.
“So what I should have done is asked to see your concealed weapons permit because that is something that’s mandatory,” she tells Farrell.
“I don’t have a concealed gun on me,” he replies. “I do have a concealed-weapons permit but you do not need a concealed-weapons permit for a nonconcealed gun.”
“I mean, a regular permit just to carry the gun around,” she says.
“There is no permit in this state for that,” he tells her.
“It used to be years ago you would have to give your weapons to the bartender,” she says.
“This bar is private property, obviously,” Farrell says. “You can set whatever rules you want.”
“You can pull that out on me and shoot,” she tells him. “You see what I’m saying?”
“Well, of course. And that’s one of the reasons to carry openly, is for self-defense but it’s also to educate others as well that, one, it’s not against the law and, two, that not everyone with a gun is a bad guy. Certainly if there was a bad guy coming to rob you, he wouldn’t let you see the gun until it was too late.”
With that, the bartender goes about her business.

I find it unfortunate that often, when an individual raises abortion as a critical issue, there is a fear that they will be quickly labeled a “one-issue” voter. While this characterization might protect one from confronting the moral gravity of taking an innocent, defenseless, human life, it also avoids the reality that abortion is an issue that affects all segments of our society. It represents the primary right guaranteed in our Declaration of Independence — the right to life. Unless we protect this fundamental right of each human person, at all stages of life, no other issue or right matters.

At the end of March, troops of a major drug cartel launched a series of attacks on military personnel and installations in a half dozen cities in the northern Mexican states of Nueva Leon and Tamaulipas. Fortunately, things did not work out as the narco-thugs had hoped. At least 18 of them are now taking the kind of siesta from which there is no awakening and, at last count, only one Mexican soldier was injured. Contrary to the notion that the cartels depend on semi-automatic rifles bought illegally in the United States, the cartel conducted its attacks with a variety of weapons that cannot be legally bought anywhere in our country. As the Los Angeles Times reported, "In coordinated attacks, gunmen in armored cars and equipped with grenade launchers fought army troops this week. . . . The army said it confiscated armored cars, grenade launchers, about 100 military-grade grenades, [and] explosive devices" in addition to a large quantity of ammunition.

John T Reed: Is Barack Obama really the great speaker everyone has been saying?.
He frequently pauses randomly and for no reason other than mesmerizing the audience. This has the effect of drawing the audience up onto the front edge of their chairs as they instinctively strain to hear what the person is saying. Obama’s fellow Chicagoan, the late Paul Harvey, was the master of the theatrical pause. In Paul Harvey’s hands, the pause was the tool of a mastercraftsman, strategically placed when used, not random, not a cheap trick.
