In a vivid demonstration that such policies can have First as well as Second Amendment implications, a federal judge this week ruled that Osceola County Sheriff Douglas Weber violated a man's right to freedom of speech by denying him a carry permit based on his political activism. Paul Dorr, well known locally for demonstrating at abortion clinics and agitating against government spending, applied for a permit because he carries large amounts of cash as part of a balloon-selling business. Weber decided Dorr was too "weird" to carry a gun, although he had held a permit without any problems from the late 1990s until 2006. The sheriff put this notation on Dorr's rejected application: "Concern from Public. Don't trust him."
Many years ago, as President of the Hastings Dive Club, I drew the line at admitting abalone-loving, free-diving snorkelers. Alito's dissent:
CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOC. CHAPTER OF UNIV. OF CAL.,HASTINGS COLLEGE OF LAW v. MARTINEZ.
I do not think it is an exaggeration to say that today’s decision is a serious setback for freedom of expression in this country. Our First Amendment reflects a “profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open.” New York Times Co. v. Sullivan , 376 U. S. 254, 270 (1964) . Even if the United States is the only Nation that shares this commitment to the same extent, I would not change our law to conform to the international norm. I fear that the Court’s decision marks a turn in that direction. Even those who find CLS’s views objectionable should be concerned about the way the group has been treated—by Hastings, the Court of Appeals, and now this Court. I can only hope that this decision will turn out to be an aberration.

This horrible op-ed in the OC Register is full of it. Hunt a unionist? Hunt supporters are a very diverse and patriotic bunch, not union thugs. The union members among them are the right kind of duty-minded public employees, performing the services government is supposed to perform. Calle writes Hunt "portrays himself as a Sheriff Joe Arpaio type", neglecting to add that Arpaio himself portrays Hunt as an Arpaio-type. Hunt aggressive? Well, of course! Hunt is the people's choice because he represents the people and we are pissed, pissed at incumbent pols and incumbent media. Hutchens "soft on Second Amendment"? She has declared war on the Second Amendment! More like Calle is soft on Hutchens.
Star treatment - Opinion - The Orange County Register.
Orange County's hottest race in the June 8 primary election quite possibly is the competition for Sheriff-Coroner. Given the previous elected sheriff was the disgraced Mike Carona, emotions are high as voters consider which candidate will do the most to restore integrity to the county's top law enforcement post.

I received two voter guide cards in the mail today. One picked anti-CCW Hutchens for Sheriff. The other endorsed anti-CCW (or at least anti shall-issue) spoiler Craig Hunter.
BOTH cards happen to TOTALLY AGREE on SIX RINOS/INCUMBENTS for 71st District Central Committee: BEALL, SPITZER, GILCHRIST, BUCHER, FLEISCHMAN, ANDERSON. Jack Anderson OPPOSED last year's Central Committee resolution criticizing Hutchens' restrictive CCW policy, and said the Second Amendment does NOT protect concealed carry, though many legitimately contend otherwise. Regardless how the Supreme Court rules, we need to elect those who will defend our constitutional rights without compromise. [For example, here's an EXCELLENT CHOICE: David R. Duringer, Gun Trust Attorney (listed last on ballot).]
Both cards also endorsed Mimi Walters, whose alternate also voted against the resolution criticizing Hutchens.
A reasonable inference from these facts is that BEALL, SPITZER, GILCHRIST, BUCHER, FLEISCHMAN, and ANDERSON, are THE ANTI-GUN SIX to AVOID PUTTING ON CENTRAL COMMITTEE.
Of course, the only way to really get their attention is to stop contacting them completely and spend all your time training with firearms. Imagine if everyone did that. But if you think someone is still listening up there, go ahead:

It must be difficult to speak out against the imminent ban on Open Carry, when "the conservative candidate" you invested so much in actually voted for a law restricting open carry/speech, which if it hadn't died out in the senate, would have prohibited the very unloaded open carry i now practice occasionally in my own neighborhood to inform neighbors of the valuable right they are about to lose.

I try not to be paranoid but i sympathize with WND. Google is still the main referrer of traffic to my blog, but based on the flurry of visits over the years from Mountain View, both "googlebot" and "google" proper, one cannot escape the feeling they "manage" traffic a bit.
Google today was hushing up the new dispute over President Obama's strange Social Security number by diverting searches for news reports on the issue to unrelated stories about Elena Kagan, oil, Tampa and the Federal Reserve.

I spoke briefly this evening at the Casta del Sol Republican Club (quite a group!). My delivery might have been better if i'd had more than three hours of sleep and less than three pots of coffee, but i did my best. Here is text of the short speech:
GUNS ARE GOOD. Self-defense is the other side of the Right to Life coin. There can be no prosperity, without the rule of law it guarantees.
As A gun trust attorney, and concealed firearms instructor, I help families protect life, fortune, sacred honor. As an Econ major I like efficiency, but efficiency will not get us out of this mess. We need to change who we are, and become Americans again.
The Supreme Court recently acknowledged: ‘..'a well-regulated militia’ .. cannot exist unless the people are trained to bearing arms." Jefferson wrote we have a “DUTY to be AT ALL TIMES armed.." Ben Franklin warned we only have a republic if we can keep it. We now have the government we deserve. Does Washington listen? How do you say “no” to Washington? How do you form a state militia without a people trained to bearing arms? The Second Amendment is meaningless unless we live it every day.
Concealed carry has tactical value. But while an INDIVIDUAL may be safer when criminals don’t know who is armed, there is a better way to warn criminals and tyrants. SOCIETY is SAFEST when NEIGHBORS know who is properly armed, and who FAILS “to be at all times armed.” Only open carry provides accountability, and educates the next generation of patriots. THE HOLSTER IS A GREAT TEACHER. A nation that does not respect and protect concealed babies will not respect and protect concealed firearms. Out of sight, is out of mind. Concealed carry is Concealed Speech. Open carry is Ultrasound for the Second Amendment. Open carry is the surest path to a people trained to bearing arms.
Things will not change unless WE change. We must embrace AMERICAN culture, unique in all the world, in all HISTORY. If we don’t, our children will lose their birthright, and the world will lose hope.
While we press for more open carry, we must expand Concealed Carry, and deliver a fight-stopping, center-of-mass hit against socialism in Orange County by Electing Bill Hunt as Sheriff!
Then hold that trigger to the rear, release it just enough to reset the action, and put me on Central Committee. My name is last on the June 8 ballot: Duringer—like the pocket pistol—David R. Duringer, Gun Trust Attorney. Sign up for my FREE concealed carry class at WORLDEXAMINER.COM ~ Thank you

The Second Amendment guarantees our freedom ONLY if we live it every day, and that means carrying a weapon EVERY DAY. Too many politicians miss the mark when asked about the Second Amendment, referring to their hunting or military experience, and we must instead elect candidates who, alongside fellow citizens, regularly TRAIN for armed self-defense. We are very fortunate to have Bill Hunt as a candidate who obviously agrees that ‘..'a well-regulated militia’ .. cannot exist unless the people are trained to bearing arms" [SCOTUS 6/26/2008] and "..it is their right AND DUTY TO BE AT ALL TIMES ARMED.." [Thomas Jefferson, 1824].
"The Second Amendment should be the litmus test for anybody seeking election," said Bill Hunt, a candidate for sheriff in Orange County, Calif.
This article is filled with so many falsehoods, I don't really want to rely on this quote, but i think clarification is needed, from the top.
Activist who challenges Obama's citizenship is booted from Tax Day Tea Party - latimes.com.

Scott Smith I posted a rebuttal to to this video on her page and it got erased. Those of you living in Ladera Ranch, as you drive home today you will pass under the “Doctor Guevara Way” sign along Crown Valley Parkway, and a few minutes later probably turn onto O’Neill Drive, named for a wealthy family responsible for resuscitating the Democratic (i.e., Socialist) Party in Orange County. You may see eco-caskets whizzing around (perhaps you’ve seen the whole fleet of them tucked away behind Covenant Pool). While driving, you may want to think about any control (on speech, or whatever) you may have personally experienced under the thumb of the new socialists (including a few RINOs) which seem to be entrenched in local community organizations.
Ladera Ranch is a beautiful place to raise a family, but realtor friends tell me it’s extremely liberal. Certainly, I’ve seen my share of socialists in Ladera community orgs, and Ladera Life has always seemed carefully controlled to present a certain image of the community. However, I disagree that the average Laderan is as liberal as these institutional meatheads: In gathering signatures to get on the ballot for Republican Central Committee, while being very open about what I believe, I was very much pleasantly surprised at the number (of Republicans at least) that support constitutional conservatives, and the magnitude and enthusiasm of that support. Only two refused to sign my nomination papers—one said she was a “Hillary supporter” and the other said, “Well, you know I’m a Canadian and probably shouldn’t be Republican anyway.” (Yes, I had a blast getting signatures, and the comic relief was welcome, too.)
As for the gentleman honored by the memorial plaque, I have no idea of his politics and he may have done some very great and good things, so this is not directed at him personally. But does anyone think that an individual similarly deserving but with the unfortunate hypothetical name of “Donald T. Heitler” would have been so honored with such a plaque, posted at Terramor Aquatic Park, which is frequented so frequently by the children of Ladera Ranch with their mothers and grandparents in tow? (But Uncle Joe’s popularity is surging again in Russia, so what the heck, why be concerned about so many kids seeing this?)
Stay safe,
Dave Duringer

The OC Register misquoted me ["I'm afraid of terrorists but am more afraid of a government that can't protect us," he said.] at the TEA party in San Juan Capistrano. Actually I said: “I’m afraid of terrorists but I’m more afraid of a government strong enough to protect us from terrorists.” Context was gun rights, America's best homeland security.
This isn't the first time i've been misquoted by journalists, but this misquote was completely different and totally changed the meaning i tried to convey, and i repeated my statement twice to the reporter so i have a hard time believing my words were not intentionally reconstructed by someone in the chain (for some reason, maybe an innocuous one like saving space?).

WND: News sites swap Obama's birthplace like magic.
If you happened to read online news sites such as United Press International or the popular hoax-busting Snopes.com anytime up until Tuesday night, you would have seen definitive statements that President Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. But checking back now, both sites are suddenly providing an entirely different location, the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children, also in the capital of the Aloha State. Within hours of a WND report revealing Obama's birth being reported at two different Hawaiian hospitals, both sites changed their information to suddenly fall in line with the president's claim that he was born at Kapi'olani.

Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area. "I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."
....

WND: State drops warnings over 'militia' members.
The chief of the Missouri highway patrol is blasting a report issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center that linked conservative groups to domestic terrorism, assuring that such reports no longer will be issued. The report warned law enforcement agencies to watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers for third-party political candidates such as Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin. It further warned law enforcement to watch out for individuals with "radical" ideologies based on Christian views, such as opposing illegal immigration, abortion and federal taxes.

Media continues to morph machine guns with "assault weapons."
I don’t know how many times it has to be said, but the so-called "assault weapons" that Attorney General Holder wants to ban aren't machine guns. They're the same semi-automatic firearms that have been around for more than 100 years. General Clark is deliberately misleading the American people.

Wikipedia, the online "free encyclopedia" mega-site written and edited entirely by its users, has been deleting within minutes any mention of eligibility issues surrounding Barack Obama's presidency, with administrators kicking off anyone who writes about the subject, WND has learned.

"The memory of the memorable battles grows cold. The liberals who applaud their outcomes and live in their light forget the motivation that drove the champions of freedom. They approve religious intervention in the political process selectively: it's great when it's on their side. In a secular age, Freedom of Speech is more talismanic than Freedom of Religion. But the latter is the first freedom in our Bill of Rights. It is in terms of this first freedom that this case should be decided," the judge said.

An evangelist recently observed that self-professed "atheists" hate God more than angels etc. because they know that God exists. (And therefore aren't really atheists).
When anti-gun socialists such as Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and Barack Hussein Obama profess, "I believe in the Second Amendment," they really do, and that belief is what engenders so much hatred and anti-gun bigotry, That is what causes them to lie so boldly and act in unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious ways to constrain the rights of truth-tellers.
LaPierre: Having It Both Ways.
A spokeswoman for President Obama has confirmed what the NRA has been saying all along ... that he supports gun control, including sweeping bans on semi-automatic rifles. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says it received confirmation of Obama's support for gun control laws in an email from spokeswoman Amy Brundage. Of course, the spokeswoman spat out that forked-tongued two-faced doublespeak that's become so familiar- that Obama "believes in the Second Amendment" as well. Doesn't anyone call a lie a lie any more? That's like saying you believe in the First Amendment, but it doesn't apply to radio or cable television. We'll get the same argument from those who want to shut down conservative talk radio before long. It doesn't matter if it's the First or the Second Amendment we're talking about ... there is nothing right or reasonable about rationing constitutional rights, and the NRA will fight until they're restored.

Presidents are free to conduct press conferences however they like, but the decision to preselect questioners is an odd one, especially for a White House famously pledged to openness. We doubt that President Bush, who was notorious for being parsimonious with follow-ups, would have gotten away with prescreening his interlocutors. Mr. Obama can more than handle his own, so our guess is that this is an attempt to discipline reporters who aren't White House favorites. Few accounts of Monday night's event even mentioned the curious fact that the White House had picked its speakers in advance. We hope that omission wasn't out of fear of being left off the list the next time.

A new lawsuit is challenging Barack Obama's eligibility to be president, and this one targets Congress as a defendant for its "failure" to uphold the constitutional demand to make sure Obama qualified before approving the Electoral College vote that actually designated him as the occupant of the Oval Office.
