WND: Unarmed victims beaten, burned to death

The right to keep and bear arms is not just for citizens.  Self-defense is a universal right for all, including foreigners.  Even illegal aliens, as long as they are not violent criminals, should not be denied this most important right. WND: unarmed victims beaten, burned to death.

WND: McCain to attend convention of 'reconquista' group

Link: McCain to attend convention of 'reconquista' group.

Sen. John McCain, the de facto Republican presidential nominee, announced today he will attend the national convention of La Raza, a radical Hispanic lobby tied to the movement to reconquer the Southwestern U.S. that was part of Mexico before the Mexican-American War that ended in 1848. The convention will be held in San Diego July 14. Though La Raza bills itself as a civil rights organization, the group's name literally means "The Race."

Tancredo to Pope: Stop promoting amnesty

Link (WND): Tancredo to pope: Stop promoting amnesty.

The pontiff, asked by reporters on his flight to the U.S. Tuesday if he would address Hispanic immigration, said the U.S. must do "everything possible to fight ... all forms of violence so that immigrants may lead dignified lives." Tancredo, a former Catholic, told House colleagues, "I would like to know what part of our lax immigration policy is considered 'violent.' I fail to see how accepting more refugees than any other nation while providing free health care, free education, free housing and free social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens in this country is any way 'degrading' to them or 'undignified.'"

Vodka-maker Absolut "apologizes" and pulls "Reconquista" Ad

Link: Vodka-maker Absolut apologizes, ends ad showing California, Texas as part of Mexico - International Herald Tribune.

MEXICO CITY: The Absolut vodka company apologized Saturday for an ad campaign depicting the southwestern U.S. as part of Mexico amid angry calls for a boycott by U.S. consumers. The campaign, which promotes ideal scenarios under the slogan "In an Absolut World," showed a 1830s-era map when Mexico included California, Texas and other southwestern states. Mexico still resents losing that territory in the 1848 Mexican-American War and the fight for Texas independence. But the ads, which ran only in Mexico and have since ended, were less than ideal for Americans....

This is the "apology":

"As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market, and for that we apologize."

Fomenting Reconquista? Princess Cruises and Absolut Vodka Corrupt Absolutely

This Absolut Vodka ad...

Absolut_2

...looks a lot like this t-shirt I picked up on a Princess cruise to Mexico:

Mextshirt

Granted, it does say "United States" but there is no border and it does look like the large "Mexico" in red-white-and-green sits atop the whole region.  Is the US just a region of Mexico?  Odd to encapsulate so much of US on a shirt depicting Mexico, isn't it?  Are SF, LA and SD merely northern points along the "Mexican Riviera"?  Consider as well that the official name of the country south of US is Estados Unidos Mexicanos, or United Mexican States.

Leprosy outbreak causes concerns in Northwest Arkansas

Link: Leprosy outbreak causes concerns in Northwest Arkansas (KFSM.com).

So now, Bingham, and others like Mayoral candidate Nancy Jenkins, say government help is the next step. Jenkins says she's angered the federal government has been so lax with border patrol. She says, "We've just opened the borders and said, 'Come on in! Bring your diseases! Bring 'em!' Why are we doing that? Those who have it need to be quarantined and treated, or sent back to their country." Dr. Bingham is requesting the public take action, and write everyone from legislators, and presidential candidates, to Congress, and the Health Department. Shey says, "the only way to truly protect our community and our economic growth, is to think of this as a very important, panic-mode attempt to treat leprosy: before it gets out of hand." Doctors say leprosy will appear as a discoloration, or nodules, on the skin, especially the fingers, toes, arms, and face. With treatment, it is curable, but it can take from six months, to two years, to completely disappear. Springdale is also reporting over 100 cases of tuberculosis.

Border Watch Group Gets Practical With New Name and Equipment

This group sounds a lot like the one I was with in July 2005.

Link: Sierra Vista Herald | The Bisbee Daily Review.

BISBEE — A local border watch group recently changed its operational name and some of its tactics due to the types of illegal immigrants its members are encountering. Cochise Borders Civil Defense Corps is now officially known as Cochise County Militia. Advertisement Bill Davis, the director and founder of the group, said he is authorizing the carrying of rifles and shotguns, in addition to handguns. Members also can wear military-type battle dress uniforms, camouflage gear and face paint. “The people we are running into are armed and are wearing camo clothes. Sometimes they are military. Sometimes they are the police dressed as military. They are escorting the gun smugglers over,” he said. “We’ve got to fight fire with fire.”

Ukraine Offering Subsidies to New Mothers and other Statist Solutions to Stave Off Population Decline

Link: Orange Ukraine - Words and Deeds.

Protect Family Values, Respect for Parents, and Children's Rights (+) I'm giving this promise a tentative positive after reading about the new budget. It looks like both the promises to new mothers and disabled children have been covered. This positive is conditional on the budgeted payments actually coming into effect, of course, as well as dealing with the majority of other sub-pledges. sub-pledges include: a) Reverse population decline (-) b) Increase support for new mothers tenfold (+) c) guarantee good healthcare for pregnant women. d) provide assistance to those raising children or caring for the elderly e) revive state kindergartens and nurseries, ban the sale of preschools (-) f) provide credit to homebuyers (-) g) eliminate child homelessness (-) h) provide free medical care to disabled children (+) i) establish a family doctor system (-) I'm going to give this more minor issue a weak negative rating. As with everything else, the benefits for families are on the budget, but the economy is so weak it is questionable whether or not they are affordable.

Per W.Ex's correspondents in Ukraine, annual payments are now 12,000, 25,000, and 50,000 hryvnas, respectively, for one, two, or three children (about $2400, $5000, and $10,000, respectively, in US dollars).  These are very large payments by Ukraine standards.  More evidence that the sin of abortion leads to more sin and unaffordable statist largesse.  (Witness the invasion of illegals in the US.)

WorldNetDaily: Terrorist base south of border

For the archives, posting this 2003 article from WND re Islamic terror base in Paraguay.

One of the areas I patrolled in 2005 as a California Minuteman is reputed tobe the site of apprehension of one of these terrorists.

Link: WorldNetDaily: Terrorist base south of border.

International law-enforcement authorities combating terrorism have growing concerns about a major influx into the Latin American nation of Paraguay of Arabic-speaking visitors carrying European passports. Some of these "Europeans" could not even speak the language of their so-called mother land, according to a report in the latest issue of Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, an online premium intelligence newsletter published by WND. Many of the visitors and emigres travel to the triple border region where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. This region, often described as a lawless area, is nicknamed by some intelligence station agents as "The Muslim Triangle meeting zone."

RKBA in Mexican Constitution

Mexico is one of the few countries in the world with some form of constitutional RKBA.  Unfortunately, regulation of guns is heavy despite this protection.  I think everyone realizes that failing to secure the border will lead to nightmarish politics for RKBA as we know it, but at least we are not completely starting from scratch in assimilation with regard to this essential element of American freedom.

Link: Gun politics in Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Constitution of 1917 (Constitución Política de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos de 1917), the current constitution in force and heavily-amended, grants Mexican citizens (and, theoretically, perhaps, all inhabitants) the right to possess firearms. However, this right does not include military firearms suitable for use in a militia, unlike in the United States where the Second Amendment is often interpreted as only protecting arms suitable for use in militias.

What Chertoff Means in Russian

Regarding Chertoff's name, "-ov" or "-off" in Russian is simply a suffix for names, without other meaning.  More interesting is the Russian translation of "devil":

The second word on the list, "ЧЕРТ" (bolded, in red), is pronounced "chort" (there is supposed to be an umlaut over the "E") rather than "chert" but difference in pronunciation may be considered de minimis given the practical limits of transliteration.

Large Teams of Suicide Bombers Headed Our Way

Gentlemen, our individual chance of having to deal with these monsters is thankfully remote, but it's likely that one of us will have to, especially as time goes on.  Let's give them a reception to write home about.  For example, in the appropriate circumstances, a well-placed shot, from close proximity, to the cranial-occular cavity, preceded perhaps by genuflection for an upward trajectory (avoids collateral damage in the event of penetration).  That might just do the trick, depending on the mechanism used for detonation.

ABC reports:

Large teams of newly trained suicide bombers are being sent to the United States and Europe, according to evidence contained on a new videotape obtained by the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

10_08_05_008FYI as it has some relevance, here are some pictures of the Great Wall of the United States, taken during my previous involvement as a California Minuteman:

'Snuff' the Gun Shop Owner, Priest Says (CNSNEWS.COM)

An Illinois gun-rights group says it plans to complain to the Catholic Church after a Chicago priest at the weekend appeared to call for the murder of a suburban gun shop owner.

My country and my Church had both better figure out that they need each other, and quick.  Without a strong and credible Church, America will keep sliding into immorality (which incidentally makes it more of a target for militant Islam).  Without America, who will defend the Church?

Good news, but shameful it took so long to ban such a horrific procedure that has no medical value.  How could any of its supporters (direct or indirect) be considered Catholic and/or American?  With the borders wide open, will this decision stick or be emasculated by a grotesquely expansive health exception?

Law would make Minutemen guilty of 'domestic terrorism'

Link: WorldNetDaily: Law would make Minutemen guilty of 'domestic terrorism'.

A. An individual or group of individuals commits domestic terrorism if the individual or group of individuals are not affiliated with a local, state or federal law enforcement entity and associate with another individual or group of individuals as an organization, group, corporation or company for the purpose of patrolling to detect alleged illegal activity or to individually patrol for the purpose of detecting alleged illegal activity and if the individual or group of individuals is armed with a firearm or other weapon.

You mean, like this?  The groups I participated in were well armed (especially during the July '05 incident) but there was a third group (Friends of the Border Patrol) I did not participate with because that group's rules limited carry to LEO's only.  Predictably, that group ended up being assaulted by a mob, resulting in injuries and theft of membership lists, etc.  The border is a dangerous place.  (And as jimmyb of Conservative UAW Guy reminds us: free speech isn't free.)

This is a brief account of my involvement as a California Minuteman on the electric and stormy night of July 30, 2005, in high-desert Jacumba, CA -- how a transactional lawyer with no government military experience found himself crouched behind a boulder with a battle rifle (unloaded) and four ten-round mags of .308, ready to provide cover for fellow Minutemen across the street in the event a certain SoCal gang made good on its threat to come down and shoot us all.
