12 Injured as Anti-Gun Congresswoman Shot in Head

It is one thing for an anti-gun Congresswoman to be shot in the head.  (Not justifying this obvious breach of just war doctrine, but perhaps AZ is not the ideal place to establish a beachhead for progressive gun control.)  In a free society, it is always a risk that an enraged lunatic will take the law into his own hands, attempting assassination--whether by gun or knife or bomb or bare hands.  Happens all the time with knives, in fact.

But for TWELVE (including a child) to be injured (not sure yet how many fatalities)--that is just inexcusable, and those attending are to be blamed for not defending themselves.  I doubt very much the carnage would be so great if this had happened at a Republican event attended by a people trained to bearing arms.  The idiot would have been lucky to get one shot off.

These people obviously had too much faith in the ability of law enforcement to protect them.

When you decide not to defend yourself, you put others at risk.  Possibly, you put a whole society at risk.

Creepy FEMA Visit to my blog post on Obama Banning M1 Shipment

I may be overreacting and this sitemeter snip below may simply represent a fine FEMA official friendly to gun rights, surfing the internet in spare time between disasters, but i just find this FEMA visit to my blog post on Obama's recent banning of the M1 shipment from Korea to be CREEPY, even more so than the snips i have of CHP visiting my post on the California Highway Patrol's role in forcibly disarming NOLA residents during Katrina, and similar snips over the years. [UPDATE: Oh, I forgot to mention the somewhat predictable visits by the ubiquitous "Performance Systems International" including one to this very post, within seconds of posting. UPDATE2: followed by another to my law site, both copied below.] Stuff like this makes me think of Holodomor when I hear of irrational controls on Central Valley agriculture, milk and CO2 classified as pollutants, millions on food stamps....

My Speech on Open Carry

I spoke briefly this evening at the Casta del Sol Republican Club (quite a group!).  My delivery might have been better if i'd had more than three hours of sleep and less than three pots of coffee, but i did my best.  Here is text of the short speech:

GUNS ARE GOOD. Self-defense is the other side of the Right to Life coin.  There can be no prosperity, without the rule of law it guarantees.

As A gun trust attorney, and concealed firearms instructor, I help families protect life, fortune, sacred honor.  As an Econ major I like efficiency, but efficiency will not get us out of this mess.  We need to change who we are, and become Americans again.

The Supreme Court recently acknowledged: ‘..'a well-regulated militia’ .. cannot exist unless the people are trained to bearing arms."  Jefferson wrote we have a “DUTY to be AT ALL TIMES armed.."  Ben Franklin warned we only have a republic if we can keep it.  We now have the government we deserve.  Does Washington listen?  How do you say “no” to Washington?  How do you form a state militia without a people trained to bearing arms?  The Second Amendment is meaningless unless we live it every day.

Concealed carry has tactical value.  But while an INDIVIDUAL may be safer when criminals don’t know who is armed, there is a better way to warn criminals and tyrants.  SOCIETY is SAFEST when NEIGHBORS know who is properly armed, and who FAILS “to be at all times armed.”  Only open carry provides accountability, and educates the next generation of patriots.  THE HOLSTER IS A GREAT TEACHER.  A nation that does not respect and protect concealed babies will not respect and protect concealed firearms.  Out of sight, is out of mind.  Concealed carry is Concealed Speech.  Open carry is Ultrasound for the Second Amendment.  Open carry is the surest path to a people trained to bearing arms.

Things will not change unless WE change.  We must embrace AMERICAN culture, unique in all the world, in all HISTORY.  If we don’t, our children will lose their birthright, and the world will lose hope.

While we press for more open carry, we must expand Concealed Carry, and deliver a fight-stopping, center-of-mass hit against socialism in Orange County by Electing Bill Hunt as Sheriff!

As California Considers New Rifle Registration Scheme, Katrina Victims Just Want Their Guns Back from City

As Sacramento tries new scheme to register long guns (http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?id=5703), Katrina victims in New Orleans still wait to get confiscated guns back:

She Just Wants Her Dang Guns Back - HUMAN EVENTS.

According to Assistant City Attorney Victor L. Papai, as of last October only three applicants had turned in paperwork to get their guns back. Papai does not return calls any longer regarding the tally. The city does not have their guns and it only has to comply with the court order until October 2010.

A test run for the main event, perhaps to suppress opposition to global governance?  Before 2005, only a "right-wing nutjob" could be worried about mass gun confiscation.  Well, it actually happened and elite institutions have done a pretty good job of keeping you from finding out.

Who among us supports socialism in word and/or deed?  In revolutionary times, Americans came up with a humane (no permanent injury) way of punishing British loyalists - TAR AND FEATHERS.  Short of resorting to violence, how can WE (individually, locally) at least shun these socialists and deny them position and power to enslave our children?

Seriously, this film is highly recommended, brilliant on many levels as it illustrates family loyalty, the need to bear arms in protection of life, dignity of women, and even dignity of the unborn.  Tremendous (all the more because it's TRUE) story of how the Bielski brothers saved thousands of fellow Jews and trained them to fight against the Nazis.  (I've heard of Jews fighting back in the Warsaw ghetto, but had not heard of the Bielski brothers and their fellow partisans, who fought in Byelorussia.)

Transcripts of text messages sent by Orange County sheriff's officials during a November 2008 Board of Supervisors meeting shows the law enforcement leaders using their cell phones to ridicule activists and even supervisors during a public hearing on gun permit policies. The messages, obtained under a public records request by a group named Ordinary California Citizens Concerned with Safety, reveal a combative tone by sheriff's command staff toward the activists. Some county supervisors questioned whether that defensiveness triggered the large security presence that met activists when they returned to a January meeting seeking to again criticize Sheriff Sandra Hutchens' gun policies.

The broad specifications of the bill's language, however, contribute to concern that the "national emergency" purpose could be utilized by the secretary of homeland security to include any kind of situation the government wants to contain or otherwise control.

The Great Southern California ShakeOut earthquake drill is based on a magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake on the San Andreas fault in southern California. This portion of the San Andreas fault has been identified as the most likely source of a very large earthquake in California (Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities). As part of the earthquake drill, computer simulations of the ground shaking from this scenario earthquake were constructed through a collaborative effort between the USGS and the Southern California Earthquake Center, which involved researchers from the USGS, URS Corporation, San Diego State University, and Carnegie Mellon University. These computer simulations capture the shaking at length scales larger than about 300 ft (100 m) and provide detailed pictures of the shaking for this scenario earthquake. The magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake ruptures 186 miles (300 km) of the San Andreas fault from Bombay Beach at the edge of the Salton Sea in the south to Lake Hughes northwest of Palmdale in the north. The final slip (offset across the fault) ranges from 6-23 ft (2-7 m). The colors in the movies indicate the peak intensity of the shaking up to the current time at each location. NEW ORLEANS - The National Rifle Association has hired private investigators to find hundreds of people whose firearms were seized by city police in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, according to court papers filed this week.  The NRA is trying to locate gun owners for a federal lawsuit that the lobbying group filed against Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Warren Riley over the city's seizure of firearms after the Aug. 29, 2005, hurricane. In the lawsuit, the NRA and the Second Amendment Foundation claim the city violated gun owners' constitutional right to bear arms and left them "at the mercy of roving gangs, home invaders, and other criminals" after Katrina.

Emergency Powers Bill Heads to Schwarzenegger

Remember New Orleans?  NEVER AGAIN shall we allow mass gun confiscation!  On Wednesday, September 5, the California Senate passed Assembly Bill 1645 by a vote of 21-16. The bill now heads to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for his consideration. AB1645, sponsored by Assemblyman Doug La Malfa (R-2), will protect law-abiding gun owners during a declared state of emergency from the seizure or confiscation of any lawfully carried or possessed firearm or ammunition.

Helen learned to parachute and to assemble, fire, disassemble and clean the AK-47 when she attended high school in Ukraine.  The interview took place in 1997, only a couple years after she came to this country.  She did quite well making her point, that the feminist push for women in the military manifests itself primarily in socialist countries.  (Capitalism, on the other hand, requires strong families.)  Not that women shouldn't shoot--that's a separate issue.  Since then she's taken a number of classes with me at Front Sight, where I'm a Bronze member.

World Examiner has some catching up to do - a lot happened this week.  As Cam Edwards reported, both on NRAnews and on his blog, President Bush signed the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection bill into law.  This is supposed to prevent a repeat of New Orleans-type gun confiscation, although I wonder what exceptions might be in the bill, and what this piece of paper will mean if teachers and parents fail to  pass on to future generations the great American tradition of firearms ownership and carry.
